so fresh, so clean

Something a little more minimal than what I'm used to, but definitely worth listening to. The driving back beat keeps the song pushing forward, and I like that. This is another mix from my friend Everything Continues, out of Bloomington, Indiana. I'm waiting on a Kanye mix he should be releasing sometime after the beginning of the year. Check him out on MYSPACE.

hangover angst

It seems that the "thing to do" if you write for a blog is to post your Top 10 of the year, whether it be albums, songs, sex positions, whatever. And yeah, I guess I could rack my brain to come up with my own opinion of the ten best songs of the year. But what do you care what I think? So therefore, I'm not going to give one. But I will link to analog giant, who has a pretty decent list that comes jam-packed with videos, just because he's awesome like that.

And what's up with the Christmas electro mixes that are everywhere? I mean, seriously. It's funny once. But is it necessary to put up 6 Jingle Bell dub mixes?

I'm going to continue on this angsty post by discussing something I read in Spin magazine this past week. Spin was also doing their own versions of Top Ten of 2007, and evidently Justice's album Cross made it into the Top 40 Albums of 2007. This is what THEY say:

This Parisian duo emerged as the brightest lights in the Euro nü-rave scene that's also been dubbed blog-house, an apt name because the duo's bowel-loosening riffs are gargantuan enough to sound cool on even the crappiest computer speakers. Like mentors Daft Punk, Justice create populist dance music -- their Sabbath-meets-Nile Rodgers tunes are jacques-your-body jams for indie kids. With references drawn from '70s hesher rock -- quasi-Christian iconography, stomp-box bass lines, crunchy prog-synth riffs -- Justice made electronic music filthy, funky, and fun again. M.E.

Where in the world did blog-house come from? And what does that even mean? I guess I can kind of see where Spin is coming from here, because I doubt that they spend four hours a day searching through blogs for music like I do. But seriously, what can you expect from a title like that? If Justice is blog-house, then well, what else is? I know, I know I'm digging way deeper than I should here. I'd just rather not have Justice titled as such. And Justice, of all electronic bands to call blog-house....I guess Spin is just months and months behind the rest of us.

how bout strip skatin?

Now, there's many things I'm looking for when I am listening to music that artists represent themselves with. However, it's almost impossible to lable that exact feeling I get when I find something that truly catches my eye and when I [think] that I am not the only one who's going to feel the same way. I could say it's the bass beat that I look for, it's the odd mix of songs the artists put together, the ALMOST annoying lyrics or the breakdown, but really, what's it matter? If it's good, it's good, and all you have to do is hit play and turn up the volume to decide for yourself.

I was doing another one of my myspace binges when I ran across Strip Steve, an emerging artist on the Boysnoize record label. Like everything that's hot right now, Strip Steve is hitting it up in France. If only I did not live in the most centrally located place in the United States, otherwise I'm sure I'd be the first at the door of the clubs.

another unsigned hit

I dont know what I was doing on the internet when I rolled across Götterdämmerung on MYSPACE and listened to the first track on the list, "Mitte Boy." I started groovin' immediately to that funky guitar riff and bass line that make me feel all tingly inide......but anyway, the song keeps my foot tappin all the way through. Definitely watch out for this guy, because I'm positive that this could get popular soon.

rawr ocelot mix

Coming out of Houston is Fixture who has his own Ocelot Lo Sforzo mix. Thank you iheartcomix for spawning an extreme force of Ocelot mixes due to your competition. But it's all good cause Fixture creates a damn good one. Althought his remix of Lo Sforzo is quite different than his other songs [which you can preview on his MYSPACE] it has a steady beat that doesnt get dulled out by either a] a repetitive vocal sound that's whiny and never varies, b] a bass beat that makes me want to crush my skull against the car window, or c] rip off Justice or Uffie. So thanks, now go listen.

where's your moustache?

Take off your Nike Air Trainers and get out on the dance floor cause here comes Supercycle! It's dancy electro-pop-synth that's just emerging into the electronic music world [considering they just started making music in August 2007]. I had an email interview with them to figure out why they do what they do and....well...what's up with all of the mustaches.

Who is it that specifically influences your style?
Kraftwerk, George Martin/The Beattles, Quincy Jones/Michael Jackson, Megadeath, The Panacea, Rick Rubin, Bob Rock, Ricardo Almeida, disco, funk and rock... the 70's 80's and 90's combined.

Why did you start making electro music?
The electro is because of Jen, one half of Supercycle. She has always loved electro. She made electrostep as a solo artist. I bring in the harder edge and together we really like the sounds we create. She is a really insane editor, and I get a little crazy with creating sounds, so it works.

Primary equipment: Logic.
Supercycle doesn't have any US tour dates at the moment, but look out Toronto! They'll be playing at Shit La Merde in the near future.

And when asking about why all of their pictures on MYSPACE are of mustaches, well, they just like the damn mustaches, that's all. And if you do too, check out Movember, which makes November the month for mustache awareness.

loud music, LOUD PIPES

Loud Pipes, from Liverpool, creates some funky synth pop beats that get me movin the minute I click "play." You might remember their remix of Purple Crush's"Vacation," which is pretty hot if I do say so myself. Their newest mix just missed winning iheartcomix's ocelot remix contest but still deserves a listen to because I think it's amazing. And if I think it's amazing it's worth listening to at least once, right? Or if you're like me, you'll like it and keep playing it for days and days.

The perfect Lime Green hoodie I've been looking for that reminds me of being in Dwan's Tattoo Shop.

Air Trainers for 100 bucks

But then I started to get a little artsy on this shirt from Lemar and Dauley

But, if you're too poor to throw out 300 bucks on a hoodie, then get me some damn orange shoelaces.
